PROGRAM – AUTHORS
Prof Ferdinando Rodriguez y Baena
Chair of the Programme Committee of CAOS International
f.rodriguez@imperial.ac.uk
With the year 2020, Computer Aided Surgery and our society CAOS International, are entering a new world: the world of Data. For years, we have been successfully focused on the development and clinical use of new technologies, sensors, software and clinical workflows. Most of them relied originally on orthopaedics standards, and the first main contributions of CAOS to Orthopaedics was to raise a lot of new fundamental questions.
The time has now come to answer to these questions !
The explosion of new technologies offers us the access to a tremendous amount of data, available for re-use. Connected implants, smart instruments, IOT, … contribute to the development of quantitative approaches which will transform, in outpatient, the healthcare organisations, as well as the relationships within the communities (patients, healthcare professionals, …).
Producing data implies managing data. Data warehouse interconnections, massive access to clinical databases, connection between research and clinical datasets, links between biology, surgery and engineering: So many concepts that will transform our world. Data storage, transmission, sharing, analysis and securing will therefore become major issues in our future.
To step into this new world and as a society dedicated to continuous innovation in orthopaedics, we would be very happy to welcome papers that are opening new gates, new ways of thinking.
The conference will be the place where newcomers, experienced engineers and surgeons will have a unique opportunity to mix their cultures, their knowledges in order to design the future. Pre-Conference workshops and focus groups will address cutting-edge and promising technologies in a pedagogic way.
In 2020, we will be more than happy to welcome you in Brest. By the sea, you will be able to enjoy, the conference, but also countryside, Celtic culture, seafoods, and historical places as well. Many islands are accessible by cruise ships in one day.
CAOS 2020 will be, thanks to all of you, a fantastic meeting. I’m sure of that !
